Hi

Just wondered if anyone has experienced problems with the above drug? I started it last Thursday and every morning since then i have had a bit of an upset stomach. I came off mtx in January because again i was having upset stomachs all the time but because i was also very low and suffering from anxiety, we thought it might be that.

I saw my rhuemy nurse last week and because my esr is still high, i therefore had to start taking something again and i was very worried about mtx because of the problems i had, but it now makes me think that it is the pills!

Just seems odd that it has been every morning since i started it sulfasazine, I'm meant to be increasing it from the end of the week.

I take tablets for an underactive thyroid, depression, anxiety, ibs....really fed up of it all. I returned to work last week after being off for 3 weeks as everything just got to much, but i really don't want to start worrying about this pill now as well, especially as i have an hours bus journey in the mornings, cant be feeling like that on the bus. Blushing

Can anyone help Confused

Thank you

Thank you Rose.

Well i didn't take it last night and my stomach was not as bad this morning, having problems getting in touch with my RA nurse. Did just speak to my GP and he said to stop taking it until i speak to the nurse.

I could only tolerate half a dose. Every time I increased it I also got splitting headaches - but can tolerate 250 mg (I have the liquid version so you can take less than one tablets worth). I could also only tolerate 1 tablet of leflunomide. Now just started Humira.

Glad your GP advised you to stop until speaking to the Nurse - that's what I would have done.

Hi Louise,

I have been on 4 sulfasalasine daily for about 8 months but taking now 6 a day. I had to start off with 2 daily for one week and then to increase by 2 tablets every week after that but I took more time to increase my tablets. I increased every two weeks. It took longer but had less side effects.

I also had IBS but I have been prescribed Ranitidine 300gm which I take every morning. I can't say that I have IBS anymore as long as I take the Ranitidine tablet which is antiacid. I was taking Lanzaprazole before but I think Ranitidine is far better. This is quite bizarre because Ranitidine is not as strong as Lanzaprazole but it doesnt matter, as long as it does the trick.

I also take 1 tablet of 10mg of Amytriptiline everynight. That is an antidepressant but taken at low dose helps with sleep and anxiety.

I think this could be worth considering. Have a chat with your GP.

Let me know how you get on.

HI Lou
I started sulfasalazine about five weeks ago, increasing the dose gradually and im now on four a day. I am experiencing horrible nausea and have had a number of headaches. I also take thyroxine after having my thyroid gland removed 10 years ago.
Im seeing RA nurse on 30th to discuss these symptoms.
Hope you feel better soon

Hi topic sulphasalazine I have ben taking for the last 15 years or so along with naproxen thats all. From reading all your comments it seems meds and dosage have moved on some what. When you are talking about the drugs your are all on I have no idea what they are.Have i been left in the dark because I have recently experienced stomach problems and when visiting the hospital for a review because I have not been feeling well for some time they want to increase my dosage of what I am on to try and bring down the inflammation I have at the moment .Do you think its time for a change for me as it seems what I am on at the moment is failing.Regards Mags x

I had really bad stomach problems on Sulphasalasine and had to stop. I do know that a lot of people do well on it if they take a stomach protector such as omeperasole. Good luck in getting to see your nurse.
